Decatur Animal Services has registered to compete in a qualifying heat April 4 thru April 15 to be eligible to participate in a $300,000 adoption challenge which runs July thru Oct 2011, with financial incentives up to $100K. For more information please see http://challenge.aspcapro.org/ .
Ito say I’m a little overwhelmed is an understatement! and Shannon has generously offered to manage the social media aspect of this, particularly in getting out the vote so we qualify to participate.
There is a lot of information available, and I haven’t begun to absorb it all yet. Anyone interested in helping us may listen to any of the webinars in the archive or sign up for one that hasn’t taken place yet. From the ASPCA informational emails:
“You can watch the webinars anytime, 24/7, from any computer with speakers. There is a pause button so you can stop and start - I'm not sure if you close the browser window if you'd need to re-register or not but if so, it's okay to register / view multiple times.
Volunteers should preferably register with their names and email addresses but this doesn't make them "members" of anything - they will have the option (on the registration form) to subscribe to the ASPCApro monthly enewsletter and alerts. “

Your thoughts and comments are welcome, although I have to warn everyone that since animal intake (and therefore staff workload) is up 16% from last year this time and litter season has started very early, this whole effort at this point until we make it to the adoption portion in July, will be volunteer driven.
Thanks each and every one of you for everything you do for the animals!
